Outdoor clothing can be mainly divided into three types: underwear, thermal layers, and outerwear.
Underwear
The primary purpose of outdoor underwear is to keep the skin dry. If sweat evaporates from the skin, it will take away a significant amount of body heat, making one feel cold. Therefore, underwear should be made of synthetic fibers; avoid wearing pure cotton or pure wool underwear.
The function of thermal underwear is to create an air layer inside the garment. Air is an excellent insulating medium. After an air layer is formed inside the thermal underwear, the cold air from the outside is separated from the body, thus maintaining body temperature.
Outerwear
Outerwear for mountaineering and outdoor sports generally refers to garments such as waterproof jackets, waterproof pants, and raincoats. Their main functions are waterproofing, windproofing, and tear resistance. With the development of technology, waterproof and breathable fabrics such as GORE-TEX and FIRST-TEX have been developed for waterproof jackets and pants. The principle is that in a thin film state, the diameter of the pores on the surface is precisely between water molecules and vapor molecules. Vapor molecules can pass through, while water molecules are blocked, thus achieving a waterproof and breathable effect.
